This tutorial uses a different technique.  You will only see the canvas in the downloaded file.  Everything you need is on the canvas.  Make sure you have your Layer Palette visible.  You will Load from the Alpha Channel (not Selections).

You can fill background layer color of your choice.
Use your color preference for the bird.  I put the color I used.
You can colorize the feathered parts to make other colors.
I made another one using blue and colorized the yellow.

Branch
Click on Branch-cp Layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load From Alpha Channel Branch-cp
Flood fill with #C0AE8C.
Effects- Filters – Paint Engine

FEET
Click on Feet-cp Layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load From Alpha Channel Feet-cp

Deselect (Ctrl D)
Effects – Plug-in Filters – Paint Engine

   Select faded mosaic
Retouch Tool – Darken to go around edge and add detail
   Darken RGB
   Round 
   Size 3 to 5

Apply Paint Engine again using feathers-cp

Apply Drop Shadow again changing Vertical to 1 – other settings to same.

HEAD
Click on Head-cp on Layer Palette

Apply Paint Engine again using feathers-cp

Now we’ll repeat the same step for the Left Eye.

Selections – Invert – Apply same Drop Shadow

Retouch Tool – Lighten RGB (2nd tab) – For eye highlight – Same settings
Deselect (Ctrl D)
Effects – Blur – Soften

BEAK
Click on Bottom beak-cp on Layer Palette
Selections – Load From Alpha Channel Bottom beak-cp
Flood fill #DEC090
Deselect (Ctrl D)
Effects – 3D – Drop Shadow – Same settings
Click on Top beak-cp on Layer Palette
Selections – Load From Alpha Channel Top beak-cp

Then from front center toward eye on each side.

Click once for right and left nostril.

HEAD DETAIL
Click on Head-cp on Layer Palette

Darken around eyes, cheeks, in beak, and chin.
SAVE

That's it!  You are finished.  Now try experimenting with colorizing and adjusting
the color to suit you.  Merge all but background and tube if you would like to.
