This tutorial uses a different technique.  You will only see the canvas in the downloaded file.  Everything you need is on the canvas.  Make sure you have your Layer Palette visible.  You will Load from the Alpha Channel (not Selections).

You may want to flood fill to help you see better.  You can delete this layer before merging.

BACK FEATHERS
Click on back feathers layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – back feathers
Flood Fill #FFFEE5
Keep Selected
Air Brush
Spray over lightly with the following colors:  #70563E, #EEDA9C, and White

Deselect (Ctrl D)
Effects – Plug-in Filters – Fantastic Machines PaintEngine
Apply the following settings.  (It won’t say owl-cp.  I save it as that.)

Use you Magic Wand with a feather of 3. 
Click on background area (of this layer). 
Hit the Delete key several times. 
This will get rid of  the darker rough edge.
SAVE

BODY BROWN
Click on body brown layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – body brown
Flood Fill #70563E
Keep selected 
Airbrush as before with #422C2D and #CEBE92
Deselect (Ctrl D)
Apply PaintEngine filter again – same settings
Colors Adjust Brightness 20 / Contrast 20
SAVE

BODY WHITE
Click on body white layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – body white
Flood Fill #FFFEE5
Keep Selected
Airbrush again with #70563E, #EEDA9C, and White
Deselect (Ctrl D)
Apply PaintEngine filter again – same settings
SAVE

BEAK AREA
Click on body white layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – body white
Flood Fill #FFFEE5
Keep Selected
Airbrush again with #70563E, #EEDA9C, and White
Deselect (Ctrl D)
Apply PaintEngine filter again – same settings
Effects – 3D – Drop Shadow
     Vertical & Horizontal 0
     Opacity 80
     Blur 8
     Color #422C2D
SAVE

BRANCH
Click on branch layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – branch
Flood Fill #70563E
Deselect (Ctrl D)
Apply PaintEngine filter again – soft paint (setting that came with it)
Effects – 3D – Drop Shadow
     Change Blur to 5
SAVE

LEFT CLAW
Click on left foot layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – left foot
Flood Fill #FB9D2F
Deselect (Ctrl D)
Retouch Tool – Darken RGB
     Size 3
     Hardness, Opacity, and Step 25
     Denstiy 100
Draw line for detail on claw
Retouch Tool – Darken RGB
     Size 2
Highlight between a touch - optional
Effects – 3D – Drop Shadow
     Same setting – apply twice.
SAVE

RIGHT CLAW
Right click on left foot
Duplicate
Image – Mirror
Move in place with Mover Tool if necessary
SAVE

FACE
Click on red X on glasses on the face layer
SAVE

Optional Detail
You can change size to 5 on Lighten RGB and keep Darken RGB settings the same to add some eye detail.
Click on body white.  Lighten behind eye and darken around top and side of eyes.
Darken RGB with size 8 then 4.
Click on back feathers layer and add detail to feathers.

You may delete background and merge visible.
