This tutorial uses a different technique.  You will only see the canvas in the downloaded file.  Everything you need is on the canvas.  Make sure you have your Layer Palette visible.  You will Load from the Alpha Channel (not Selections).

Open Scarecrow ©2003 Carla Polston canvas and shirt fill-cp

Duplicate (Shift D) and close original canvas to save for another use.
Save in PSP format and name as you wish.

I left a background layer.
You may want to flood fill to help you see better.
You can delete this layer before merging.
Have you Layer Palette open

LEGS
Click on legs layer on Layer Palette.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – legs
Flood Fill #78260A

HAT
Click on front hat layer on Layer Palette.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – hat
Flood Fill #A46C46
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – back hat
Flood Fill #713D1B
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – hat detail
Adjust Brightness/Contrast (Shift+B)

  • Brightness (-60)
  • Contrast 0
SAVE

HEAD
Click on head layer on Layer Palette.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – head
Flood Fill #C4A472
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – head detail
Adjust Brightness/Contrast (Shift+B)

  • Brightness (-60)
  • Contrast 30
SAVE

FACE
Click on the red X on the eye (PSP8) or glasses (PSP7) on the face ©2003 Carla Polston layer of the Layer Palette to make the face visible.

SHOES
Click on shoes layer on Layer Palette.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – shoes
Flood Fill Black

STRAW 1
Click on straw 1 layer on Layer Palette.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – straw 1

SHIRT
Click on shirt layer on Layer Palette.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – shirt

  • Scale 100
  • Angle 45
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – buttons 1
Flood Fill Black
Effects - Inner Bevel - Jasc Round setting from drop down menu.
  • Change Intensity to 50
  • Other settings stay the same
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – shirt detail
Adjust Brightness/Contrast (Shift+B)
  • Brightness (-70)
  • Contrast 20
If you use a color or a different fill, you may need to adjust these settings.
SAVE

STRAW 2
Click on straw 2 layer on Layer Palette.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – straw 2
Flood Fill #E1CC81
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – straw 2 detail

PANTS
Click on pants layer on Layer Palette.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – pants

Add Noise 15% Uniform
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – pants detail
Adjust Brightness/Contrast (Shift+B)

  • Brightness (-100)
  • Contrast 0
SAVE

SUSPENDERS
Click on head layer on Layer Palette.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – suspenders

Effects - Inner Bevel - Jasc Groove setting from the drop down menu.

Click on hands layer on Layer Palette.

Add Noise 8% Uniform

Adjust Brightness/Contrast (Shift+B)

  • Brightness (-70)
  • Contrast 0
SAVE

TIE
Click on tie layer on Layer Palette.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – tie
I used Jasc Rope tube to fill in.

  • Scale 20
  • Step 1
  • Continuous
  • Incremental
SAVE

STRAW 3
Click on straw 3 layer on Layer Palette.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – straw 3
Flood Fill #E1CC81
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – straw 3 detail
Flood Fill #78260A

You may delete background layer (bottom layer), merge visible and SAVE!
