This tutorial uses a different technique.  You will only see the canvas in the downloaded file.  Everything you need is on the canvas.  Make sure you have your Layer Palette visible.  You will Load from the Alpha Channel (not Selections).

You may want to flood fill to help you see better.  You can delete this layer before merging.

BODY1
Click on body1 layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – body1
Flood Fill White
Selections – Invert
Effects – 3D – Drop Shadow
• Vertical & Horizontal 0
• Opacity 100
• Blur 60
• Color #A3A6D8
Deselect (Ctrl D)
Effects – Noise – Add 6% Uniform
SAVE

***We’ll use the same steps on body2, head 1 & 2, and arms 1 & 2.  The only change will be the blur on Drop Shadow on both head and arm layers.  Change Blur to 30 ***

BODY2
Click on body2 layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – body2
Repeat same steps as for Body1 (fill, invert, drop shadow, deselect, & noise)
SAVE

HEAD1
Click on head1 layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – head1
Repeat same steps as for Body1 (fill, invert, drop shadow – Change Blur to 30, deselect, & noise)
SAVE

HEAD2
Click on head2 layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – head2
Repeat same steps as for Head1 (fill, invert, drop shadow, deselect, & noise)
SAVE

FACES
Click on Red X on the glasses on the face layer to make visible.

NOTE - I did a little out of order here, so you wouldn’t have to change back and forth between colors.  We’ll do scarf after arms.

ARM1
Click on arm1 layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – arm1
Repeat same steps as for Head1 (fill, invert, drop shadow, deselect, & noise)
SAVE

ARM2
Click on arm2 layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – arm2
Repeat same steps as for Head1 (fill, invert, drop shadow, deselect, & noise)
SAVE

SCARF
Click on scarf layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – scarf
Flood Fill #40FF40 (or color / pattern of your choice)
Optional – Deselect (Ctrl D) Add noise 8% Uniform
Stay on same layer.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – scarf detail
Flood Fill Black
SAVE

HAT1
Click on hat1 layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – hat1
Flood Fill #FFFF40 (or color / pattern of your choice)
Optional – Deselect (Ctrl D) Add noise 8% Uniform
Stay on same layer.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – hat1 detail
Flood Fill Black
SAVE

TOSSLE
Click on tossle layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – tossle
Flood Fill #C00000 (or color of your choice)
Optional – Deselect (Ctrl D) Add noise 10% Uniform
SAVE

HAT2
Click on hat2 layer on Layer Palette
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – hat2
Flood Fill Black (or color of your choice)
Stay on same layer.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – hat2 detail
Flood Fill White
SAVE

Optional Drop Shadow
Body2
Click on body2 on Layer Palette
Effects – 3D – Drop Shadow
• Vertical 0
• Horizontal (-6)
• Opacity 70
• Blur 10
• Color #A3A6D8 (same)

All finished. 
You may delete background layer and merge visible.
