You will Load from the Alpha Channel (not Selections). Make sure you have your Layer Palette open (F8). You should be able to do this tutorial in any version of PSP. Location of tools may be different.

Download Supplies HERE 

Open Christmas Tree 07 ©2007 Carla Polston canvas.

Duplicate (Shift D) and close original canvas to save for another use.
Save in PSP format and name as you wish.

I left a background layer.
You may want to flood fill to help you see better.
You can delete this layer before merging.

SAVE every so often as you work!

Trunk
Click on trunkcp layer on Layer Palette.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – trunkcp
Flood Fill #78260a or your choice
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – detail1cp
Adjust Brightness/Contrast (Shift+B) Adjust for color used.

  • Brightness: -45
  • Contrast: 20

Tree
Click on tree1cp layer on Layer Palette.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – tree1cp
Flood Fill #45c917 or your choice
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – detail2cp
Adjust Brightness/Contrast (Shift+B) Adjust for color used.

  • Brightness: -80
  • Contrast: 0
Continue clicking on each of the tree layers repeat the above for each of the tree layers.

Star
Click on starcp layer on Layer Palette.
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – starcp
Flood Fill #e0b624 or your choice
Selections – Load from Alpha Channel – detail11cp
Adjust Brightness/Contrast (Shift+B) Adjust for color used.

  • Brightness: -60
  • Contrast: 0

Decorate as you wish. I included some decorations. Use the Freehand Selection Tool to select the decorations you would like to use. Then copy and paste to your image.

You may delete background layer (bottom layer), merge visible and SAVE!
