This tutorial is to help you take a preset shape with many vector layers and put them on individual Raster layers so you can add detail to each individual shape within the image. As a Vector layer you are unable to apply effects, filters, or use many of the tools. In order to do this, you must have the object on a Raster layer. If you want the image to have detailing on each of the shapes within the image, you will need each shape on its own Raster layer. This tutorial was written using PSP8, but could be used in PSP7.

You will need to have a shape you created still in Vector layers. You can read through this tutorial to get the general idea of how apply this technique with other preset shapes using several Vector layers. Basically, you want to have all your grouped Vector layers ungrouped and placed on their own Vector layer. From there they can be converted to their own Raster layer where you can make modifications to them. This tutorial gives more detailed instructions based on my Line Tool TUTORIAL
How to detail individual elements of preset shapes!,
What you need to do to modify.
• Open all layers on the Layer Palette.
• Select any layer you would like to modify and make changes. (Node edit or change colors)You may right click on Vector 1 and change to Raster now, but I prefer creating a Raster layer for each shape. This way I can modify each shape individually. This is a longer process, but you will probably prefer it if you want to detail flower.

• Ungrouped the flower, petal and leaf layers by right clicking on them and selecting Ungroup.
• Create a new Vector layer for each of the layers. I have found it quick to just click on New Vector Layer on Layer Palette and hit the Enter key on the keyboard to create many new vector layers. (I have 15 layers, so I will create 14 New Vector layers. One can remain on this vector layer)
• Start dragging top layer under Vector 1 up to the top new Vector layer you just created(by clicking on the layer, holding down the mouse and dragging up to the top ). Keep in the same order. As you drag each one up, the next one you will need to move will be the first one under Vector 1 (They move up!) You notice one layer less left under the Vector 1 layer each time you move one up.
• You may want to click on the little + beside each of the new the Vector layers to make sure you only dragged one layer to each one before you convert to Raster layers.
• Right click on each Vector layer on Layer Palette and convert to Raster. (I find it easier and quicker to right click on each layer and just hit the C key on the keyboard.) Do not worry about the way it number the Raster layers. If you start at the top it will number them as you go down in order. If you start at the bottom, it will number them as you go up in order. As long as you drag them up in the correct order, they will be in the correct place. If you happened to get one out of place, just click on the Raster layer on the Layer Palette and drag to the correct place. You'll notice in the image, mine shows 16 Raster layers. That is because I started with the very bottom layer being the background (Raster layer) I used to fill to help me see better.

Each individual shape is now ready to detail as you wish.
Now you can take any preset shape with many vector layers change to add details and make it unique. I hope you will find this a useful technique.Hope you have enjoyed this tutorial.
