***  There may be similiar tutorials out there.  I received a letter asking for help with this, so I created this tutorial.  I went ahead and posted in case others may need help with this  ***

Make sure Layer Palette is open.

1. Select the size of workspace you that would be larger than the text image you would like to create.  You can always crop later.  I started with 300 X 125 pixels.
2. Flood Fill the bottom layer with a color.  Don’t use anything way too light or dark since you will use white and black to create this image.  This is just so you can see the image.  We will delete this layer later.  I used #00FFFF
3. Click on the Text Tool
4. Select a any other color for the Background.  I used #FFFF00

5. Foreground null
6. Select font, size and style.  (I used Ariel – 48 – Bold)  Select to create it as a vector.  This will let you resize and create a new layer.
• In PSP7, you click on the image and then select font type, size, etc.
• In PSP8, you select font type, size, style, etc before clicking on the image
7. Type text in pop up.  This is what you should have now.

8. Right click on the Layer Palette on the Vector Layer and select Convert to Raster. (PSP7 won’t say raster and vector layer.  Look at the icons.  In PSP7, you will have Layer1 and Layer2.  Layer2 is the vector layer.)
9. Select All and Float (Ctrl C & F)
10. Selection – Load and Save to Alpha Channel (PSP8) - Save.  Save to Alpha Channel (PSP7)  - OK – OK .  Don’t worry about naming.  We only have this one selection.
11. Selections – Select None (Ctrl D)
12. Hit the Delete key on the keyboard.  Don’t panic!!!  The selection is there in the Alpha Channel we just saved to.
13. Selections – Load/Save from Alpha Channel – Load (PSP8).  Load from Alpha Channel - OK
14. Effects – 3D – Drop Shadow (You can play with these settings a little to see what you like.  Remember you can always (Ctrl Z) to undo!
• Vertical & Horizontal 1
• Opacity 20
• Blur 4
• Color Black
15. Add a New Layer
16. Effects – 3D – Cutout (Again, play with the settings to see what you like.)
• Vertical & Horizontal 1
• Opacity  100
• Blur 4
• Color White
17. Selections – Select None (Ctrl D)
18. With the Drop Shadow on one layer and the Cutout on another, you can adjust the opacity of the layer by using the slider on the right or add a little more Gaussian Blur.  I added a Gaussian Blur of 1 to both Layers to soften.  You may want to keep the sharper image.

19. Delete the bottom layer – Right click on the Layer Palette and select Delete.
20. Merge Visible – Right click on one of the remaining layer and select Merge Visible.
21. Tube if you would like to.  File – Export - Tube

Hope gives you an idea how to create transparent text.
